Hi Loves! It’s that time of years when the celebs are prepping to look their best at all the awards shows that are coming up starting with the Golden Globes this Sunday! I am an avid award show fan – I love everything about it….the red carpet, the glitz & glam, the fashion, the makeup, the energy (felt over the TV I guess) and seeing all these stars and how they handle winning and losing, being made fun of by the host of the show, how they perform on the fly on live TV and the fun of it all. Although, I don’t really get to sit down and watch the shows in detail like I used to (hello motherhood), I still get excited about this time of year and hope to catch most of the action.
So in honor of awards season, I had to do a post about how some celebs might prep for potentially the biggest night of their lives. We could all use these 5 tips for preparing for a big event in our own lives, like a reunion, a wedding, an upcoming interview or even a photo shoot.(Like a recent glam style shoot my family just did… a few pics included below <3)
Here is a list of things to complete before you get in front of whatever camera and audience you might be preparing for in your own life.
Whiten those teeth!
This is such an easy step to do – with so many options out there, it’s become very affordable, quick and easy to whiten your teeth and give yourself some confidence to smile with pride showing off your pearly whites.
Here are a few choices:
Drink LOTS of water
I know I’ve talked about this before, but the benefits are almost endless. Drinking lots of water will make your skin look better in photos and you’ll probably also feel better having continuously hydrating your body from the inside out, flushing out toxins and even stimulating your metabolism – all just by sipping more water. It’s good to start drinking as much water as you can (up to 1 gallon per day…which is A LOT!!!) about a month prior to your event you’re prepping for. But even 1 – 2 weeks will do to help give your skin that hydrated, full and more youthful appearance. This task could go along with a work out plan and diet, but I’m just not going to go there….let’s just focus on drinking water. 🙂
Exfoliate and Hydrate
However you decide to do this, whether it be by going to a salon to get a treatment such as microdermabrasion, dermaplane or a hydrafacial (all of which are procedures I LOVE!!!) or by investing in a few at-home treatments to do on your own, this is an important step to ensure you’re looking your best. Exfoliating is SO important to stimulate new cell growth, rid your skin of dead cells and making your skin silky smooth. And you’ll always want to hydrate that freshly exfoliated skin post treatment – so important to take care of that “new” skin underneath all that dead stuff. Here are a few of my fave at-home treatments, I love that tingling feeling I get when I do an at-home mask.
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel (I also love that they have a version for sensitive skin so if you’re new to peels at home, you could start with that option)
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment – I’ve also talked about this one a few times, I seriously LOVE it!!! Using this with a Clarisonic or Luna of some kind, or some kind of powered facial brush, will give you extra good results. You will get addicted – I promise!
Side note – ALWAYS use a good sunscreen after you do an exfoliating treatment as many ingredients may make you a little extra sensitive to sun. I can’t stress this enough!
And last, your makeup will look so much better, flawless and glowing if you make sure your skin looks it’s best prior to your makeup application.
Invest in good undergarments
Investing in good undergarments can make a huge difference in your look and also boost your confidence by knowing nothing is popping out or squeezing you in all the “wrong” places. So whether that’s beauty tape strategically placed for a more revealing dress, spanx to smooth out areas under a more form-fitting outfit, or a bra that lifts you in all the right places, finding items that work just right for you and your specific outfit are important. It’s good to shop these well in advance so you’re not rushed and then try them on at home under your chosen outfit and take a pic and see if you’re happy with how it looks on camera versus in person. Doing this extra prep pays off.
Don’t wash your hair
Dirty hair is the best hair for styling, up-do’s and manipulating your hair to have more volume and texture. And don’t worry about being a grease-ball, dry shampoo will fix that right up. So go ahead and give yourself a few days of not washing before your big event.
My very favorite dry shampoo is Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo and it comes in two tones so depending on your hair color, you could go with a light tone or dark tone. I love this stuff, it smells delish, gives great texture and volume and makes me feel all fresh. I think my hair was 7 days “old” in this glam photo shoot and it was so easy to style because of that reason. I did my up-do in about 5 minutes flat.
So there could be about a billion more steps, but I had to narrow it down to 5 that have the most pay off for effort put in. If you are prepping for something big, and need some help or suggestions, just reach out to me on my contact page and I’ll help you out!
Happy Friday Everyone! And enjoy the Golden Globes Sunday!
