Loving Tan Review

Hello Summer!!! Who else is enjoying the summer sun so far? Avalon and I have been outside more than ever and I have been applying that SPF 50 every time, so even though we happen to be in the sunshine a lot so far this summer, I have not really gotten a good tan developing yet, and I desperately wanted to NOT be the white-as-a-ghost mom at the pool. A good friend told me about Loving Tan and that it IS all it’s cracked up to be so I ordered it stat!

Loving Tan is an Australian company, but they have a distribution office here in the states so I ordered my Loving Tan products on June 13, they shipped on June 14 and it was on my doorstep by June 17 – that’s super fast in my opinion!

I feel good about using Loving Tan because it’s vegan & paraben free, so as far as self-tanners go, it’s definitely a cleaner product.

Skin Prep

It’s really important you prep your skin properly for the perfect self-tan. I did a post all about prepping your skin so be sure to check that out HERE before you apply your self-tanning product. One of my fave gentle exfoliators right now is Alba Botanica Hawaiian Detox Scrub. You can grab this at Target, and not only does it not have harsh ingredients, but the little beads are safe for the environment too. Its uber gentle, but leaves your skin feeling so soft.

Application

I think it is ESSENTIAL to have an applicator mitt. Loving Tan has an awesome mitt that I HIGHLY recommend getting. But you can find these at other stores as well. I’ve linked a few options here and here too that are only $6.50!  But I have to say, I prefer the Loving Tan mitt because it’s black, the material is awesome and doesn’t absorb the product and I found a discount code to get it for FREE! Keep reading to get the code I used. 🙂

mitt

Apply the mousse directly to the mitt and then rub gently on your skin in circular motions. I start at the bottom of my body and work my way up just because I find it easier to not forget a section that way. A little mousse goes a long way, which was awesome, and I LOVE that the mousse is tinted and shows color immediately so you can see exactly where you’re putting it and how well it’s blended in, making corrections as needed as you go.

If you don’t have a handy friend, boyfriend or hubby to help you get it on those hard-to-reach areas on your back, Loving Tan even sells a back applicator tool!  How cool is that?

I left my feet, hands and face for the very end and instead of using the mitt, I used an old MAC makeup body brush (that they of course no longer sell….which is sad because I LOVE this thing!), but you can use any larger makeup brush to apply the product to these last areas. Using a brush leaves your fingertips free of any weird looking residual tanner and you also are able to blend better and get the product just where you want it.  Again, apply the mousse directly to the brush and them blend into your face, hands and feet.

If you don’t want the color to develop as much on your hands/feet, you can take a baby or body wipe to these areas about 30 – 45 minutes after you apply it. Self-tanner always tends to adhere to hands/feet a little more because these are dryer areas. I didn’t do this step, but likely will next time around.

Last, Enjoy your Tan

You’ll have immediate color which is so SO awesome! And then the color continues to develop (just like a spray tan) over the next several hours. It is recommended not to shower for 7 – 8 hours and the longer you can go, the longer your color will last.

I bought the Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Dark for $34.95 and I’m really happy with the color. I considered buying Medium because I was so pale, but I’m glad I bought the Dark instead – love the color it gave me!

side by side

Seriously ladies! I’ve used A LOT of self-tanners and have spent lots of money getting spray tans over the years, and I’ve never had a better faux tan! This stuff is amazing!  The price point is awesome, it’s easy to apply, and so far, it’s wearing quite well and fading naturally (without blotchiness).  I cannot say enough good things about this tanner!!!  Like I said above, I found a discount code for free shipping and a free applicator mitt by using “brielle” – see her post here with the code.

Happy tanning loves!
