Christmas time with kids is so magical – sure it might feel a bit like that ‘Best Christmas Ever’ skit on SNL last week (click HERE if you need a holiday laugh) – but for real, it truly does make this time of year feel so nostalgic and exciting.
We have decided that for every Christmas, our kids will get something to read, something to play (or several things to play of course, am I right?) and something to experience. We hope this will create really positive memories for this time of year and ensure that the focus isn’t just on getting more things. So the ‘something to experience’ gift is really important. In the future, Avalon will get to pick this for herself, but since she’s still pretty young, we have picked her experience for her this year. We decided on a ski lesson at Snöbahn! And she LOVED it!
Both Casey and I are Colorado Natives, but neither one of us currently ski. Of course, we both have been, but it’s been YEARS since we hit the slopes. We thought it’d be fun for Avalon to experience this kind of sport which is good for her coordination, strength and brain stimulation. Snöbahn is an awesome environment – she was able to get one on one attention without having to get bundled up or get exposed to the cold, no long drive up the mountain, no expensive lift ticket and we were able to bring London with us and watch her from nearby. Individual lessons start at $60 or group lessons at $30 – which is a LOT LESS than what it would cost to actually give her a lesson on the mountain! I loved that we were able to expose her to this kind of activity without all the usual hurdles a day of skiing brings. Although we hope in the future, once London is older, we can make a family tradition of going skiing all together. But until then, it’s so nice to know that we could get both the girls comfortable with this sport at Snöbahn….I probably need a lesson too!
While we were there, skiers of all levels were on all the different slopes. It was cool to see older kids working on their skills and even adults too! And I was impressed that they even have birthday party options! Great for kid’s with winter birthdays – like Avalon. 🙂 She absolutely loved her lesson and wants to go again! Our instructor was Chet and he was 100% amazing with her. I was so impressed with how patient and helpful he was with her. I was a little nervous because she had never done a one-on-one lesson for anything before – let alone a lesson without mom AND alone with a “stranger” – but he immediately made her comfortable and she didn’t have any hesitation. Which for her was a milestone for sure! It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. We can’t wait to go back.
And with just two shopping days left until Christmas – if you need a last minute “experience” gift for anyone, a GC to Snöbahn is perfect!
They even have reflective, mirror-like glass facing each slope so you can check your form while you’re learning.
A special thank you to Snöbahn for sponsoring this post and giving Avalon a free lesson.
