I didn’t want you waiting too long for more healthy hair tips so here is the second post in this haircare series. And I’m so excited to share this one with you – next up is fine hair! If you missed the first post in this series – click HERE – it’s all about corkscrew curly hair.
Today’s post features one of my other best friends, Marissa, who is a major boss babe – she is one of the owners of Roots & Mane – probably the most gorgeous salon in Colorado! And she is a haircare expert who is sought after by so many locals. Her schedule is JAM PACKED…for real guys, my hair appointments are already booked with her into 2020 because she fills up so fast!
So let’s dive into the questions.
How would you describe your hair type?
Fine but also medium thickness, it’s mostly straight but gets a bit of a wave when in humidity. I would say it’s a 1b or c.
How often do you wash?
Embarrassingly maybe twice a week…maybe.
What are your CANNOT live without products you constantly make sure to have on-hand?
I cannot live without volume spray! My obsession is with the VIP (Volume in Powder) by Kerastase. It gives the perfect texture without the build-up. I use it every day and sometimes mid-day too. And is smells delicious!
What is the one thing you’ve done that has transformed the health of your hair?
The healthiest thing I’ve that has transformed my hair is using less heat. When I wash my hair, I always blow it dry and then curl it. Then on the following nights, I sleep with my hair in a soft bun on the top of my head so it maintains its shape. The next morning, I pull it out and the curls stay pretty good and I just give it a little tease and spray – I typically don’t even have to retouch up my curls! Using heat only 1 – 2 times a week has really helped the health of my hair.
Anything else you want to mention that you think people with your hair type need to hear/or a common mistake people with your hair type make.
A common mistake people make with fine hair is using heat every day – even two sources of heat like a blow dryer and a curling iron or flat iron. The less heat you put on your hair, the less damage. And damage occurs so easily to fine hair. If you are going to re-apply heat after that initial wash/dry – reapply a heat protectant! I can’t stress that enough. I love the Kerastase L’incroyable blowdry lotion. You can also try to get one more day out of your style without washing by doing a low messy bun or wearing it out and off your face so you’re not playing with your hair all day.
Wow – thanks Marissa! I know I follow her advice of refraining from heat styling as much as I can – as well as using a heat protectant before using any heat. If you are local in Colorado, you can buy the Kerastase line at Roots & Mane! Go tell Marissa that Lashes to Lullabies sent you.
Follow her salon – @rootsandmane – they give tons of tips on their IG! So you can keep up with so much hair content there.
