Creating a Cozy Outdoor Space

Creating cozy outdoor space might just be more important than ever this summer! Even if restaurant patios open up, we may be less inclined to go hangout at them – social distancing might be a reality as we head into summer. So we have focused on making our own outdoor space feel more like a mini oasis for us for us to enjoy all summer long.

Here are some simple tips to enhance your own outdoor space – no matter how big or small.

Rugs // Pillows L-R – Lumbar Pillow / Printed Pillow / Cream Pillow / Tassle Pillow // Blanket // Palm Tree // Lanterns (similar)

1 // Add warmth and definition with a rug

An outdoor rug definitely makes any size patio feel more like an extension of your home. It adds warmth under your feet and give the space a defined area. So adding a rug is a MUST! Target has so many good ones right now for so affordable.

2 // Add life with greenery

Adding plants – whether they are faux or real (mine is faux) adds texture and color as well as some life to any space…and the patio is no exception. Add plants or even hang a eucalyptus wreath in the space! Greenery is good!

I cannot keep plants alive – I’ve tried and failed pretty much every time. So this year, I just went faux and I’m so happy about it. But I envy those that have real plants because they are good for you and so pretty to look at.

3 // Add texture and depth with pillows & blankets

Layering pillows and adding a blanket for cool summer nights is another way to increase that cozy factor outside. You’ll be more inclined to snuggle in and make it a happy place for you to unwind.

4 // Add style with extra decor

Extra decor pulls it all together. I love lanterns, extra planters, trays with wood bead garland, side tables, floor pillows – so many options to add your own style and tie everything together. I’m still working on this for my patio and always have my eye on a few things. All the little details can really come together to add that extra homey feeling.

5 // Add height and privacy with curtains

If you are able to create some additional privacy or shade, that’s always a good thing. It’s funny because you think closing off a space would make it appear smaller, but it did the opposite for our little patio space. Everyone who has seen our patio with the curtains thinks it looks so much bigger than before. I think just adding some warmth and the dimension makes the space appear larger. So adding curtains is so simple and easy to further define your outdoor space.

HAPPY HOUR TIME

Hope you enjoy creating a cozy outdoor space of your own!

Sarah
